Halo 3 officially Goes Gold

Many sites around the net, including XF, have been reporting that Halo 3 had gone gold. This was based on the fact that Frank O'Conner was playing the final version of the game. In typical MS fashion though, they have announced today that Halo 3 has gone gold. Wow, thanks MS. We love your late press releases. Hopefully soon, MS will officially announce the 360 plays games. All kidding aside, read on to see the official press release.

From xbox360fanboy.com

"You may not know the name Peter Marks, but if you've played Halo you know his work. Marks was behind one of the most popular multiplayer maps in the game, Hang 'em High. Marks has recently come down with a particularly aggressive form of cancer, and the Bungie community is asking fans to help lift his spirits with words of kindness and encouragement. Halo.Bungie.Org has set up a special website just for people to leave their comments for Peter.

Halo 3 achievements confirmed

One of the only Halo 3 related nuggets-o-info not to be officially confirmed by Bungie yet have been the game's achievements which mysteriously popped up (and later updated) a few months ago. But then there was all this rampant fanboy hubbub around a new set of achievements making their way online, all secret and fueling a rumor that Bungie might have released the first set of Halo 3 achievements as red-herrings. But fanboys, we have video proof that the original set of leaked achievements were spot on and very final. The overly long video above was taken while Bungie's own Frankie was online playing the gold build of Halo 3 and shows an official Xbox 360 guide achievement comparison for Halo 3. And like we said, the achievements are identical to the leaked Halo 3 achievement we've seen before. That's it, we're officially calling the task of trying to find out Halo 3's achievements before release solved and complete.

Halo 3 Game Fuel commercial

Airing on a television station near you is a new commercial promoting the Halo 3 branded Mountain Dew Game Fuel that we've all became addicted to grown to love. The commercial features numerous Xbox Live gamers screaming at their television sets, angrily yelling in multiple languages and becoming physically expressive of their pent up frustration. Why so much chaos and anger? Well, it's because they're getting pwned in Halo 3 by Mr. Game Fuel drinker himself. Give this Game Fuel commercial a watch and be sure to remember kids, you should chug it and have no mercy.

More Forge Details

Wanna know more about The Forge, Halo 3’s map “editor” (none existing geometry can be altered, so it is more of a Halo 3 customization tool). Here you go. Since damage, gravity, speed, power-up effects and almost anything else can be altered, the game can pretty much turn into any type of shooter imaginable. Add to this Forge is a live editing tool, meaning all alterations can be made while up to eight players are going at it. While there are some restrictions (i.e. you cannot eliminate a vehicle while someone is driving it), it opens the door for many fun game types that involve two “map masters” quickly stockpiling their teams for never-before-seen types of mayhem. Lots of craziness will be had, especially during the initial weeks after release when people look to be crazy. Until the dust settles and competitive game types are established, every Halo player and their sister will have their own “Forged” settings they think are the best. Expect a lot of debate – in the form of actual maps and game types to try – from Halo 3 than any other title in the past.

Critics are already hailing Halo: Uprising as a smash hit, with IGN.Com’s Richard George deeming the issue a “Must-Read,” explaining that, “Comic book and Halo fans will all find something to like here…[Maleev’s art is] something that is unique while delivering some jaw-dropping action sequences.”

Confirmed: No Halo 3 Clan Support And Longevity

2old2play.com got in touch with Frankie at Bungie and asked them a few questions about rumors on Halo 3 clan support and how they expect to keep Halo 3 running as long as their last franchise title.

How does Microsoft expect Halo3 to have the longevity of Halo2 without clan support?

Halo 3 is going to have far more longevity than Halo 2, thanks to new features like Forge, Saved Films, player traits, custom game variants and online co-op. Clan support not only had little to do with Halo 2s longevity, but in fact proved quite unpopular relative to other matchmaking types and activity. That said, Bungie.net does plan to increase support for clan-like activities in the very near future. More news on that later.

Does Xbox Live have anything in the works as a solution to remedy the lack of "clan support" for Halo 3?

Xbox Live continues to upgrade features and specifications. It is possible that community functionality will be improved in the future. This question may be better answered by the Xbox Live team.

Why has a solution taken so long when we have already had three fall/spring updates?

Frequent, low-impact updates are one of the luxuries of Xbox Live, improving features and functionalities with little impact to the seamless player experience.

What is the issue with extending the FL past 100 people?

This question may be better answered by the Xbox Live team.

Ign's preview of Forge

This might be the coolest addition to Halo 3. We've seen the map editor, and it was great. Four player co-operative play online is a big plus. But the Forge has us picturing a Halo 3 with limitless possibilities. At the Leipzig Games Convention, Bungie's Brian Jarrard showed us this Forge, Halo 3's tricked out map editor. He also showed a few other things we hadn't seen yet and talked more about the campaign scoring system. But first, we have to talk about the Forge.

The Forge isn't a map editor like you've seen in other games before. This editing tool doesn't allow you to warp the terrain or move major objects, those will stay just where Bungie put them. Rather, the Forge allows you to drop in any of the weapons, objects, vehicles, spawn points, or tools present in the Halo 3 world. If you think a map needs a flamethrower in a specific place and it's not there yet, the Forge will grant you your wish. If you want all of the spawn points for one team to be located within a small building, the Forge can make that happen. To keep things from overtaxing the memory, each map has a maximum amount of dollars that can be spent on it. Likewise, each object you can drop has a cost associated with it. A gun might cost $2 while a large vehicle up to $40.

Halo 3 Short Movie #2

We went to the Halo 3 Ferry Wheel earlier today and were surprised to see the new Halo 3 short movie by Neil Blomkampf running there! It seems like the screen had some troubles with the colors, but it's still definitely worth a good look!

A look at the Halo 3 Weapons

Halotalk.com put together some info on the new weapons in Halo 3

As in any first person shooter, you can expect a great array of weapons to be at your disposal, and Halo 3 is no exception to that rule. Most of the weapons found in the first two Halo games will be back in Halo 3 in essentially the same form as before, but with small power changes and cosmetic differences.

Halo 3 will show us a new weapons class, called “support weapons”. These weapons are excessively large, two handed weapons. When using these weapons, the view changes from that of a first person shooter into a third person view.

Missile Pod
The missile pod is a weapon similar to the rocker launcher, although with some added benefits. A major advantage of this weapon is that the missiles track your target. This weapon can also hold a lot more ammunition compared to the standard rocket launcher, although comes with the disadvantage of your character being slow to move.

Spartan Laser
This weapon can kill any player or vehicle in one direct hit. Not only does it have the ability to kill anything with one hit, it also kills anything in its path, meaning if there is more than one enemy within its sights, multiple targets can be killed at once. The major issue with this weapon is the fact that it takes around three seconds to charge and then fire.

Turret Gun
The Halo game series has always had mounted weapons, and didn’t you always wish you could rip it off its mountings and bring it with you? Well, now you can rip it off its mountings, and bring it right along with you! Although you will walk slowly when carrying this gun, the rapid rate of fire should compensate.

As well as these new class of weapons in Halo 3, there of course is other weapons that will be at your disposal. These include:

>Brute Spiker – a gun that rapidly fires spikes at enemies
>Brute Mauler – dual shotgun
>Gravity Hammer – similar to the one that Tartarus had in Halo 2
>Spike Grenade – a “stickable” grenade that explodes in a shower of spikes
>Fire Bomb – incendiary grenade with a burning compound that attaches onto anything it touches.

And for those fans of the original Assault Rifle as seen in Halo, and which didn’t appear in Halo 2 should enjoy Halo 3 even more so. The Assault Rifle is back as the default weapon, although slightly different from Halo with its slower rate of fire but with greater accuracy and a longer range.

HALO: The Movie Confirmed for Summer 08

Peter Jackson and 20 Century FOX told us all HALO was postponed sue to a lack of interest. No one believed that, but then the movie and all information about it disappeared from everyone's radar. HALO fans, as well as Peter Jackson fans felt let down and couldn't figure out how this project didn't make it.

Flash to E3 2007 where viewers and guests were treated to a trailer showing props that required a lot of work. We were then told it was just a promotional clip for Halo 3. No one asked why there was a LIVE ACTION clip to promote the game? Well XF did. Shortly after E3, images of full size Warthogs started popping up on the net. The public still didn't put 2 and 2 together. Now I know some of you did, but wanted proof to back up your theories. ...

New Letter from Billie Joe and Adrienne "The 11th hour"

I got this in my inbox.

-----------------------------------------------------

Dear Carnage,

Last week, Adrienne and I went to the premiere of "The 11th
Hour," Leonardo DiCaprio's new documentary film. The movie is
really great. You should check it out (it opens in New York and
Los Angeles on Friday the 17th, and in other cities later this
month).

"The 11th Hour" is intense. It tells us the truth that nobody
wants to hear: that human beings, especially greedy corporate
executives and their politician cronies, are responsible for
putting our planet in serious danger. If things don't change
soon, life on Earth may not survive. It has to be this
generation that breaks the chain between the polluting
corporations and the crooked politicians, this generation that
changes its habits so there's something left for other species
and the people who come after us.

There IS hope. We can make changes in our everyday lives, and
most of the technology we need to move forward, we already have
today. What we really need is the leadership, and the will, to
change. You can see the movie trailer at
http://wip.warnerbros.com/11thhour/
Go see the movie.

Thanks for your past GreenDay + NRDC activism. Remember, you can
always visit the site at

to take more actions and learn about changes you can make to
help save the planet.

Sincerely,

Hands-On With Halo 3's Singleplayer

The Halo 3 Multiplayer beta was OK. Great for multiplayer fans, good for people wanting to pop in on the series and see how it was all going, but not much more. No, as much as the kind of guys who are still playing Halo 2 MP on their original Xbox will try and tell you otherwise, what's interesting most people about Halo 3 is the singplayer. We want to see how the whole thing's going to finish up. Up til now, we didn't know much about it. The singleplayer, that is. Lucky for us, then, I just sat down and played a bit of it at a Microsoft/Bungie shindig in Sydney. How was it? Go on. Read on.

Only one level was on offer, the game's third (called Tsavo Highway, on the road to New Mombasa), but it was enough to get a feel for the thing. Least enough of a feel for a quick shot from the hip as to how the game's shaping up. You like Halo? This is more Halo. Little more, nothing less. You know how it plays, you know how it feels, it just feels a little fresher and looks a little nicer.
The graphics are a lot cleaner than the MP beta, that kinda-annoying jaggy look has (for the most part, foliage still suffers slightly) been smoothed out and the HDR lighting effects, like a dark room brightening as you bust into it, are a nice touch.

Halo 3 clan support

From xboxfamily.com:

Bungie mentioned in their new podcast. Halo 3 will not ship with clan support. As Frankie puts it, the clan support in Halo 2 really amounted to no more than a second friends list. The Bungie boys don't rule out the possibility that Halo 3 may support clans in the future, but don't expect to see it in the retail box next month. Oh, and don't forget that Microsoft isn't planning on implementing cross-game clan support anytime soon either.

But here's some leaked images courtesy of Iceman:

High 'Halo 3' hopes

The summer of threequels is winding down, but there's still one more juggernaut third installment everyone will have their eyes on this year. Just don't look for it in theaters.

The videogame "Halo 3" hits store shelves Sept. 25, and Microsoft is positioning it to be the most successful debut of any entertainment property ever with an extensive multiplatform advertising blitz geared to generate debut grosses topping even the biggest of summer tentpole pics.

In its first 24 hours of release in 2004, the second installment of the sci-fi shooter earned $125 million. That number forced many nongamers to take the vidgame biz seriously for the first time.

With "Halo 3," Microsoft's Xbox unit wants not only to top the 2004 figure but to reach $155 million in a single day -- besting the $151 million opening weekend for "Spider-Man 3," the current record holder for a pic at the box office.

Officially, of course, the software giant is hedging its bets.

"We did $125 million last time," said Microsoft director of creative marketing Chris Di Cesare, who oversaw much of the second installment's launch. "We're confident we can do better."
Microsoft wants a headline-grabbing figure to tout because a blockbuster game will not only help sell more games but also move more of its Xbox 360 consoles. "Halo 3" can only be played on that gaming system.

Company said it has sold nearly 15 million copies of the first two "Halo" games since 2001, earning roughly $700 million.

"Halo 3" it the fastest-selling pre-ordered vidgame ever at more than 1 million units already, a figure that has insiders saying they wouldn't be surprised if one-day sales near $170 million.
Xbox will sell three versions of the game: a $60 standard edition, a limited edition and an "ultra-collectible" Legendary edition for $130.

A direct comparison to any film's opening weekend over three days, of course, is unfair, given the price of the games.

"I caution the comparison at times," Di Cesare said. "I recognize it's not apples to apples. But it's big business any way you cut it."

Microsoft won't be alone in pushing "Halo 3" on the masses.
Promo partners Comcast, Burger King, 7-Eleven, Mountain Dew and Pontiac are eager to associate themselves with the "Halo" franchise.

Such planned promotions for a game launch are unusual, but the effort for "Halo 3" is on the level of deals centering around a major film bow.

"We've taken a very event-film approach to the launch," Di Cesare said.
Campaigns start today, with Pepsi launching a 12-week effort that includes a new flavor of its Mountain Dew drink dubbed Mountain Dew Game Fuel that's loaded with 30% more caffeine. "Halo's" Master Chief character is emblazoned on the specially designed cans.

Each marketer, with the exception of BK, plans to spend around $5 million on TV spots in addition to traditional in-store ads and contests. Comcast is expected to air exclusive "Halo 3" video content on its VOD service, its website Gameinvasion.net and Ziddio.com, and channels like G4 and E!; the cable system operator will also provide Xbox with an estimated $2 million in ads across various channels, which reach 22 million homes.

Pontiac will host Pontiac Gamers Garage events in various cities, similar to the music events it sponsors during the summer tied in with "Jimmy Kimmel Live."
Burger King's effort kicks off with the launch of the game and runs through Oct. 22, with the fast-food chain offering themed drink and French-fry packaging and exclusive content that can be viewed online.

Tie-in with "Halo 3" is an effort by the brands to connect with the valuable but elusive 18-34 demo.

For "Halo 2," only 7-Eleven and Pepsi, through the retailer, were promo partners. But the success of that title enabled Microsoft to bring aboard more marketing muscle for the next game.

Before the release of "Halo 2," "People didn't understand the scale or size of what 'Halo' was," Di Cesare said. "When we went to talk to promotional partners, you'd spend half the meeting talking about the videogame business. When we opened to $125 million, that really caught a lot of people's attention. It showed that videogames were no longer that thing that kids play in their basement."

Of course, Microsoft itself will pony up tens of millions of dollars on ads to push the game, and it has plans to air original programming on cable networks that target young males.

Programming, to air a week before "Halo 3" bows, will revolve around the making of the game, and the game's soundtrack; it will feature "Halo"-obsessed celebs and musicians, such as bands Linkin Park and My Chemical Romance, playing the game. "Halo 3" is the official sponsor of the Projekt Revolution music tour featuring those bands. taken from variety.com

Users Testing Halo 3 Epsilon

People are testing out halo 3 campaign and multiplayer this is the last stage before the game goes gold and its called "Halo 3 Epsilon".

heres a picture from ign:

Halo 3: Burn, Baby! Burn!

It's one of the most infamous screenshots in Xbox history. An early screen grab showed Master Chief wielding a flamethrower. That awesome weapon never made it into the original Halo or Halo 2, much to the chagrin of fans. Good news Halo faithful, Master Chief will finish the fight packing the ultimate Covenant toasting device. The flamethrower has made its way into Halo 3. You may now call in sick the week of September 25.Along with first details on the flamethrower, Bungie also revealed a new incendiary grenade, the firebomb. With these two weapons -- featured in both the campaign and multiplayer -- gamers can set the Halo universe on fire.

Flamethrower

Bungie originally planned to include the flamethrower in Halo 2, but decided its removal was necessary. "It wasn't just balance in Halo 2, it was also performance," Bungie lead writer Frank O'Connor told IGN. "Obviously the 360 makes things like that significantly easier. In Halo 3, we can control where it goes a lot better. [The flamethrower] obviously features a lot in campaign. But in multiplayer it doesn't have to be in every multiplayer playlist and map." And if Bungie finds that the flamethrower is overpowering a map or gametype, it can easily be removed. The flamethrower does things that just weren't possible in Halo 2. This is, more or less, a living flame. "If you shoot a pillar, the liquid in the flamethrower will adhere to it and burn there," O'Connor explained. "Likewise with the floor and with bad guys. It will cause continual damage to a vehicle. When the flames start to cool down and evaporate, it stops causing damage. If you're lucky enough to keep it on a Warthog, then you will in fact take it down with a flamethrower."

Halo 3 forge details

These are the details on the feature in Halo 3 called Forge other known as "map editor". Here are the details:

>Map editor (you're not making your own maps though)
> Does not support geometry creation, or texture modification
> Allows you to remove and place any items or vehicles or spawn points or objectives, etc... anywhere on the existing maps
> For things like weapons you can tweak their respawn timer and ammo count and other minor things
> You can have multiple people work in the Forge editor over Xbox Live!
> You can also dynamically switch from creation mode to playing mode and run around in the game.
> If you are "playing" in Forge and have other players in it, they can still change things! For instance, if you have a friend making a pyramid of fusion cores, you can return to "play" mode and lob a grenade in to destroy all his work!
> Make your own kind of games in forge. Bungie gives the example of grab the mongoose. One player rides a mongoose while everyone else tries to grab it out from under him by removing it in Forge! Another is like a magic carpet ride where one player will stand on a object and a forge monitor will drag it along making the player ride it through the air.
> Finally Bungie talked about how you can kind of make it into a real-time strategy game (RTS) where you set up "teams" where each team has a monitor creating items for his team to use.
>After editing/making a level you can upload it and anyone can download it.

Also i got a scan of the new vehicle called "The Elephant" its a moving base which carries the flags vehicles and team. credit goes to xbox family

Over in Amsterdam where Bungie is demoing Halo 3, the developer has apparently confirmed that the game will ship with online, four-player co-op. Rumors had been circling that co-op would only initially be available offline, but these thankfully look to be untrue. The news comes from Netherlands Website Xboxworld, and Joystiq now claims to have confirmed the good word with an English-speaking Bungie representative. The developer should be making a formal announcement later this afternoon. While previous Halo games have included a co-op mode, it was only for two people.

Update: Over at Bungie.net, Luke has confirmed the info regarding four player co-op. Additionally, Bungie has revealed two new characters who will play alongside the Arbiter and Master Chief in this four player mode. They are N'tho 'Sraom and Usze 'Taham

Here are the details on each character, straight from the source:Name: N'tho 'Sraom Affiliation: Fleet of Retribution/Special Warfare Group/Special OperationsHistory: N'tho 'Sraom is the youngest member of his Special Operations unit and is one of a growing number of human sympathizers amongst the Sangheili youth. He is a fairly typical young male adult Sangheili—he began compulsory military service at the end of adolescence, and remains unmarried with no close, non-familial relationships outside of his martial order. N'tho Sraom refused to stand idly by while the Prophets replaced Sangheili units with Jiralhanae packs, and now bears deep resentment toward those Sangheili politicians who landed his kind in their current predicament.Although N'tho 'Sraom's romanticized nationalism is emblematic of all Sangheili, he has developed a healthy respect for humanity—not for their physical abilities or martial prowess, but for their audacity and resolve.Name: Usze 'TahamAffiliation: Fleet of Retribution/Special Warfare Group/Fleet SecurityHistory: Although Usze 'Taham was born into a respected merchant family he was fathered by Toha 'Sumai—one of the preeminent swordfighters of this age. Usze graduated with honors from the top War College in the Iruiru region of Yermo, Sanghelios (a distinction he shares with Rtas 'Vadum). Shortly after receiving his first post within the Covenant Navy he was offered a place on the Prophets' Honor Guard but he declined citing "lack of practical experience". In truth, he had no desire to be part of a largely ceremonial unit, and at the end of his third combat tour, Usze 'Taham again refused the post—even though his superiors warned him such behavior could be misinterpreted as apostasy.Since that time Usze has evaded countless punitive actions, at least two assassination attempts, and served with distinction for two additional tours before the Schism. Following the dissolution of the Covenant, he was approached by the Ascetics to become one of their liaisons within the Navy. All four characters will perform identically, but the Elites will start with Carbines rather than Battle Rifles.
