E3 Announcement Shelved, For Now

As upset and frustrated as we know folks are, we hope it's at least a small comfort that our fans know we share their disappointment. A metric ton of man hours went into getting something ready to show and it's disappointing to not be able to share it. But, the upside is that it's all stuff you'll still see further down the road.

As much as fans wanted to believe otherwise, this is in fact, the truth and not a cruel hoax or prank. E3 is winding down and there are no plans to make a surprise announcement later this week.

Top Questions we've received on this matter:

1. OMG! The announce was posted at 7! This is all part of the plan.

The news was broken to us shortly before 7 p.m. and we decided to keep with tradition to make a clean break.

2. Why leave the splash page up if it's not happening?

We left the splash page up for the folks who didn't see the message or were planning on tuning in the following morning before the news vanished into Bungie.net's ether.

3. But Harold Ryan is only a TESTER this has to be fake!

Harold was a tester, but assumed the position of President a while ago. Crazy Wiki's and their misinformation.

A couple of far lower priority side effects of us not making our announcement are that the Podcast we recorded and the E3: Livin' the Dream mockumentary Sketch and I were filming have hit some snags. The Podcast will be filed away in the "archives" and will be anachronistically released at a later date. The video experience, E3: Livin' the Dream, cannot be salvaged at this time.

Will Master Chief fail miserably, or end up living up to his expectations in Los Angeles, leaving Todd, Travis, Cortana and his only true friend, the Arbiter, behind him?

I got to say that this really is a great machinima series and I hope its goes on for another 20 epidsods or more. Master Chief is great in here.

This is one weird glitch in Halo 3. A guy got on a scarab when he wasnt so he stopped it in its tracks and blew it up. Once he had to fight the scarab it came back with only half its body.

MS "already in talks" to continue Halo film

Following a swift withdrawal by film studios Fox and Universal, Microsoft is already in talks with other distribution projects to continue development of the Halo film, says Peter Jackson's representative Ken Kamins.

Prep work on the Halo film continues, Kamins tells Variety, mostly thanks to the involvement of exec producers Jackson and Walsh. Most of the pre-production is being done at their visual effects studios in New Zealand, Weta Digital and Weta Workshop, so there will be no stalling.

Both of the studios who backed the flick abruptly pulled out. Rumours say the studios were concerned over a budget rising above $135 million, but Kamins says disputes came after Fox and Universal tried to lower Microsoft's profit margines.

"What happened was this: Universal, on behalf of both studios, asked for a meeting with the filmmakers just prior to the due date of a significant payment," says Kamins.

"Basically, they said that in order to move forward with the film, the filmmakers had to significantly reduce their deals. They waited until the last minute to have this conversation. Peter and Fran, after speaking with their producing partners and with Microsoft and Bungie, respectfully declined."

Speculation also centred around the Halo film's newcomer director Neill Blomkamp, who's already filmed several Halo 3 shorts.

"Everybody is supremely confident in Neal," Kamins said. "Part of what excited Peter and Fran was Neal's vision. We're very confident this film will move forward with the creative partners intact, who will take the film to production."

The Halo shorts looked bloody great to us, and who knows; maybe they'll help the Microsoft's flick actually come to life this time. It'd be a shame to waste those real life Warthogs.

It is a scientific fact that zombies feast on human brains because they are the softest meat on a person and Zombie dental care is not really up to snuff.

To celebrate the gustatory tendencies of the walking dead and to acknowledge All Hallows Eve, we’re launching a spooktacular, eerie-otic and cryptmongous playlist for 27 horror-filled hours, starting on October 31st at 12:01am and ending at 3:00am on November 1st because we love Hawaii Halloween too (Chicken skin kine). It is infection and it is the playlist of the Living Dead.

All the videos are from the Spanish Version, but its still pretty clear what's going on. Its the MOST CLEAR guide I could find. If you need further help, make sure you ask here.

Another note. Make sure you stay in the terminal screen for a few seconds and hang around after you read it for a few seconds afterwards too to get the system to recognize you've gotten them.

Halo 3 - EXP Ranking System

Bungie has incorporated a great system to figure out how to set you up as a player against people of similar skill level. They've done this by separating two ways to measure it - A Matchmaking Skill and and Experience Points (EXP) basis.

A Matchmaking Skill is unique to each Ranked playlist, and can ONLY be earned in a ranked playlist. The higher you go, the higher your rank will go in correlation with your EXP, which will be explained later. This rating system is very similar, if not the same as it was in Halo 2, if you played that.

The EXP system works on a very simple basis. Win a game, you get experience. Lose a game, you don't get any experience. Quit out of a game, you therefore ruin the balance of the game and you lose an EXP point. Pretty simple. The more games you win over time, the higher the rank you'll get as a result, but it will be in correlation with how skilled you are in Matchmaking.

If you lose your broadband connection to the game, or if you purposely quit out, Bungie takes no exceptions and you WILL lose an EXP point. Now I know you think that might be unfair if SBC Yahoo or Comcast decides its time to reset everything randomly, but take solace in the fact that in the log term, Bungie is doing this to protect you and the quality of the game.

You Earn EXP in ANY Matchmaking playlist - both Ranked and Social, but can only increase Skill in Ranked Matchmaking.

Halo 3 will end THIS fight. If that is a new planet with a new species of alien, then we can start a new fight in 5-10 years or so. I love the ending, it's like saying the halo story is over, but we're not dead yet. So there might be a Halo 4.

When Halo 3 launches next week we will be ushering in a new and improved version of Bungie.net to blow your mind and offer an unprecedented amount of stats and features to embellish your Xbox LIVE experience. The Bungie.net team has been working overtime to cram a crazy amount of content onto the site. If you thought the Halo 2 / Bungie.net integration was cool... you aint seen nothin yet.

Chris Gossett, Bungie.net Development Lead, spoke with Team Xbox and gave them some additional details about what's in store for Bungie.net. You can check out a laundry list of features, new screenshots of the site and some insights right HERE.

This Wednesday, the first step towards Bungie.net interweb domination begins with the launch of our new framework and some infrastructure that's needed for the Halo 3 hoopla.

Then, this weekend, we will be pulling back the curtain and turning on all of the Halo 3 features. Advanced Forgery

On the surface, the Forge is pretty straight forward. Create fusion coil, hurl at friend, repeat ad infinitum. However, there are some other things that you may choose to make yourself aware of if you wish to master your tools.

Inventory and Budget

The number of objects you can place in the Forge is ultimately limited by two things: Inventory, which is the number of a specific object that you can place, and Budget, which is an overall total that keeps things in check.

There’s actually a third limit that kicks in when you’ve got a whole heck of a lot of objects on the map, but really, you need to be looking for trouble to bump into that one. The Forge will just squawk at you and give you a polite error message if you try to go above it. Don’t bother, it’s not that spectacular.

So, this video is by by MOCAMBO from Halo3Forum and since he has gotten Halo 3 early, he made a huge walkthrough of all new mulitplayer maps that haven’t been covered as the rest which are Sandtrap, Isolation, The Pit, Guardian, Contruct, Epitaph, and more other features like Forge in depth.

Hi-res screenshot galleries allow folks to take shots from any moment in Saved Films. Since Saved Films can be made of Campaign moments and uploaded to Bungie.net instantly, player profiles CAN AND WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS - so don't surf random Gamertags until you've completed the game. They could LITERALLY have the final frame of the game as a screenshot on their file share.

Campaign shots will generally be replaced with a SPOILER gif in more publicly facing areas - but individual player profiles ARE NOT SAFE and never will be! Use careful judgment.

Next week Bungie.net will be relaunched with a lot of this new functionality – and it is AWESOME stuff. Truly mindblowing. Everything we did for Halo 3 has been turned up to 11. At the wheel, Curtis Creamer, producer extraordinaire –on the turret, Mr. CJ Cowan our cinematics director, and Harold Ryan, studio head rides shotgun. The powerful, four-wheel steering and almost perfect replica of the Hog is fast and agile. Amazing then that Curtis uses these abilities to smash it into what he describes as “the illogical wall section” at a parking lot near Weta.

The thread was locked at 5 pages, I immediately started a thread like this one to discuss. 20 mins later AR's thread unlocked, he had added the last line "This is how the world ends" to his post, as well as edited the second post made by a user to say "Gravemind much?" Shortly thereafter the thread was deleted (not locked) as was my thread and the one at CompoundIntelligence. Well, you asked for it, you got it. Here he is in all his waxy glory accompanied by unveiler, Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy. If you ask me, Pete seems a little too happy to be handling Master Chief's big ole' gun although I have to say it's a toss up on which one of them looks more fake. I'm going with Wentz.

A concert put together and founded by the main headliners Linkin Park. LP has been during their thing for years, bringing great music groups together on one tour for an all around kick-ass show. So if a few a members of the band want to get in on the Halo 3 action, whose going to stop them? Sitting down to play some multiplayer with everyone were band members Chester, Phoenix, and Mr. Hahn. And you thought you were jealous before! Being big fans of the game, the LP guys were just as excited to play as the lucky gamers. One of the only Halo 3 related nuggets-o-info not to be officially confirmed by Bungie yet have been the game's achievements which mysteriously popped up (and later updated) a few months ago. But then there was all this rampant fanboy hubbub around a new set of achievements making their way online, all secret and fueling a rumor that Bungie might have released the first set of Halo 3 achievements as red-herrings. But fanboys, we have video proof that the original set of leaked achievements were spot on and very final. The overly long video above was taken while Bungie's own Frankie was online playing the gold build of Halo 3 and shows an official Xbox 360 guide achievement comparison for Halo 3. And like we said, the achievements are identical to the leaked Halo 3 achievement we've seen before. That's it, we're officially calling the task of trying to find out Halo 3's achievements before release solved and complete.
